Hurricane Dorian has caused significant damage in The Bahamas, and continues to pose a threat to U.S. coastal areas. We pray for all whose lives have been impacted by the storm, especially those who have lost loved ones. Week of Compassion is in conversation with partners and preparing to participate in a coordinated and ecumenical response. Those who are interested in helping can designate gifts to Week Of Compassion for “Hurricanes,” either in the check memo line (make the check to Vine Street Christian Church) or online at www.weekofcompassion.org.
Livestreaming

September Ministry Council
Our Ministry Council has a single purpose: to help us plan, do, and evaluate our ministry. At its first meeting in August, the Council reviewed the 15 key strategies of our strategic plan and identified nine that will shape our work for the next three years. What about the other 6, you ask? Most of them represent goals we have accomplished over the past three years, like selling a portion of the property, balancing our budget, and restructuring our staff. We will have a second meeting of the Ministry Council on Sunday, September 22, following worship, in conjunction with family programming. We moved the date to Sunday to allow more youth and parents of young children to participate. What will we do? After lunch, we will have a 45-minute high-speed, high-focus brain storming session with six teams tackling two key strategies each, listing ways of translating them into programs and projects, and presenting the ones the group feels most strongly about to the whole council. After this meeting, a leadership team will develop a three-year update to our strategic plan that includes quarterly goals for those programs and projects, and the Ministry Council will continue to coordinate and evaluate our progress. We hope you will join us on Sunday, September 22, for lunch and good work.
#DMFDay
We’re celebrating #DMFDay on Thursday, September 12, 2019, which is the 231st birthday of Alexander Campbell, one of the founders of our denomination. To honor our Church’s history, we look towards the future, by investing in the regional and general ministries we’ve developed to live into our call to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. #DMFday is our Church-wide day of giving – our first-ever giving day to support and sustain Disciples Mission Fund. So on #DMFday, we invite Disciples to come together — to celebrate our Church’s past, present, and future. Our goal is to receive 231 gifts on September 12. Will you join us?
Baby Shower
A junior, junior minister will be joining the Vine Street family later this fall. Please share the excitement with a baby shower for Allison and Jared following worship on Sunday, September 29. You can check out the baby registries at Amazon or Target , and if you'd like to help with the event, please contact Linda Brandau or Laura Miller.
