Children and Worship
This coming Sunday, we re-start children’s worship. This is important for several reasons:
First, it gives children the opportunity to listen for God’s word, offer space for their own wonderings and questions, and respond in their own ways. As children learn and grow, it’s important that they recognize that God speaks to all ages and people, in many ways and times.
Second, it reinforces a worship order that compliments the worship order the rest of the congregation practices.
Third, (and this is where you all come in!), it introduces children to other adult leaders, emphasizing that worship leadership isn’t reserved for just a select few, and begins to foster intergenerational relationships.
For the month of September, Allison will lead the children’s worship each week to help introduce and familiarize the children with the routine and practice (children will depart after the children’s conversation and return during the hymn after the sermon). Starting in October (and definitely November onwards), she’ll need a team of volunteers to help with this important ministry. Lesson plans and materials will all be provided each week, you’ll be able to shadow any Sunday in September, and Allison will lead trainings for folks who may want a little extra practice. Let her know that you’d like to be part of the team!
Good Bye, Lenin!
Vine Street at the Movies will meet at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 4th to watch Good Bye, Lenin! After she awakes from a heart-attack induced coma, a son protects his Communist mother from the shock of German reunification - by hiding it from her. Very touching and consistently amusing. Rated R.
"The underlying poignancy in this comedy is perhaps psychological more than political: How many of us lie to our parents, pretending a world still exists that they believe in but we have long since moved away from? And are those lies based on love or cowardice? Sometimes, despite a doctor's warnings, parents have to take their chances with the truth." –Roger Ebert
Monday
In observance of Labor Day (this year marks the 125th anniversary of the day's recognition as a national holiday), the office will be closed on Monday. And since it's the first Monday of the month, Monday Men will gather at M.L. Rose on Charlotte, 6 pm as usual.
