New life for all of creation

The hope of resurrection for all of creation is the flower of Jesus' complete gift of himself to us. We will gather on Good Friday at 6:30 p.m. to hear and reflect on the story of his passion. On Saturday, our candidates for baptism will gather for a retreat to complete their preparation; they are Evelyn Brown, Elise Chenault, Roman Dixon, Gideon Wurzelbacher, and Noah Wurzelbacher. They will be baptized on Easter morning. On that morning of mornings, we are all invited to breakfast together in our fellowship hall, 9-9:30 a.m., before we make our final preparations for baptism and worship at 10 a.m. All who wish to begin their Easter celebration with communion, are invited to meet at 8:30 a.m. with Lydia Grubb in the chapel.

The Green Good News

The Monday after Easter is Earth Day, reminding us that care for our common home is a central dimension of our life as human beings and followers of Jesus. Are you interested in diving deeper into the biblical teachings on the place and role of human beings in creation? Join Allison Ruari on May 4, 11, and 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to participate in three online classes presented by Lexington Theological Seminary titled “The Green Good News: Jesus’ Path to Joyful and Sustainable Life.” To learn more about this learning opportunity, please contact Allison.

Food for the hungry

Luke 14:12 serves Nashville’s hungry, homeless and working poor. On Monday, April 22, you can join other Vine Street folks to help serve lunch from 11:15 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 705 Drexel Street (the Room in the Inn campus). For more details or to volunteer, please contact Jeff Miller.

Churches partnering with schools

United4Hope is hosting a one-hour partnership information session on April 30, 2019, at 9 a.m. at the Southeast Community Center in Antioch. United4Hope connects churches to Metro Nashville Public Schools to see students thrive. Schools across the district are seeking additional community partners. If you are interested in joining Thomas Kleinert at this information session to explore this ministry opportunity on behalf of Vine Street, please let him know. To register, please complete this form.

Reminder: The church office will be closed on April 22. Thomas Kleinert will be in Memphis on Monday and Tuesday for Commission on Ministry meetings. He expects to be back on Tuesday night.
