Gleaning

The Society of St. Andrew is coordinating another gleaning event (remember the fabulous sweet potato drop in Fellowship Hall? Same idea.).

The Southeast Produce Council hosts a regular Expo where growers show off their produce to potential buyers (think: reps from Kroger, Whole Foods, etc.). In September, the Expo is at the Opryland Convention Center in Nashville. At the end of this six-hour event, a lot of food is left behind! We get to pack up this bounty on pallets so that it can be donated to a local feeding agency. Volunteers are needed to pack this high-quality food into boxes and onto those pallets so that the bounty can be loaded onto a truck for distribution to hungry neighbors in Middle Tennessee.

Volunteers are needed starting at 4:30p.m. on Friday, September 7. The service project is likely to be finished about 8:30p.m. Please email Jeannie Hunter if you’re interested in coming and/or if you have any questions. Participants must be 12 years of age or older.
