A different take on heist flicks, chili tales, and other highlights

Vine Street at the Movies, our monthly film group, meets on Wednesday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Bride’s Room to watch Ocean’s 8. Continuing a different kind of “me too” trend that started with 2016’s very successful Ghostbusters, a team of talented women hatches a devious plan to relieve a real cad of some priceless stuff. Bob Mondelo says it’s “not just a gender switch on heist flicks but a nifty takedown of celebrity culture and the fashion world.” Contact Jim Carls if you have any cinematic questions.

Big Night - Not the movie

Chili Cook-off, Game night, and opening night for Room in the Inn are all happening this Sunday night! 5:30-7:30 p.m. will be a time for food and fellowship and offering an extra warm welcome to our guests on their first night here. You are invited to bring chili or a dessert, a game, and an extra dose of warm, Vine Street hospitality. We’ll gather at 5:30 p.m. for food and games, welcome guests as they arrive around 6:15 p.m., award prizes for the best Chili (Martha Bishop is our reigning champ), and wrap up games around 7:30 p.m. so that our guests can get ready to rest for the evening.

Vine Time transitions

With Johanna Keith’s resignation from Vine Time to pursue other Vine Street leadership opportunities, Allison would like to try a few different things in Vine Time and needs help! We need two adult leaders in February, April, and May to help lead Vine Time. In March, we need one adult leader to assist Allison as the children and youth have activities and discussion around worship and liturgy, all leading up to an entirely youth-planned and youth-led worship service on May 19th. These ministry opportunities are great ways to get to know the incredible children and youth at Vine Street! Please contact Allison if you have any questions.

Put a little cash in the pot

On Sunday, our youth will collect contributions for the Society of St. Andrew, one of our ministry partners, as part of the nationwide Souperbowl of Caring. Thank you for your support of their effort!

Congregational meeting

Our new governance structure calls for additional members of the Administrative Council and the creation of a Board of Trustees. To bridge the transition time until our regular election in June, we will have a Congregational Meeting on February 10, immediately following worship, with a special election to fill those new leadership slots. The nominees for Administrative Council Members At-Large are Johanna Keith and Stephen Moseley. The nominees for the Board of Trustees are Martha Bishop, Jim Carls, Pat Cole, Jack Wallace, and Reggie Hill.
