The Vine Weekly: May 20, 2018

Here are the week's announcements from Vine Street Christian Church!

Help Support Children for Change

For just a moment, imagine the sound of a quarter clanging around in a tin can. For people of all ages, the jingling noise of coins in piggy banks, glass jars and even pants pockets is a welcome sound.

The children of Vine Street are eager to hear the clanging of coins in their newly constructed “Children for Change” coffee can. After watching the documentary, Living on One Dollar, the children of Vine Street have chosen to join with Liam Dixon on his mission project. Liam initially set a goal to provide the financial resources needed for 16 children to attend school in Pena Blanca, Guatemala, where the cost of attending school is $25 a year per student. That totals $400 for 16 students. On the day the Children for Change initiative was announced, Vine Street folks donated $150!

Let’s keep it going! At any time during the summer, the children invite you to bring your change and add it to their collection can of love—that’s Children for Change!

Luke 14:12 to Serve Memorial Day

Our monthly commitment to the downtown ministry Luke 14:12 lands this time on Monday, May 28—that’s Memorial Day. How about celebrating this holiday with Nashville neighbors by serving lunch for just a couple of hours? We’ll gather at 11:15 a.m. on the Room in the Inn campus (705 Drexel Street). Jeff Miller coordinates this ministry; please let him know if you’d like to participate (jeff.miller@img.com).

Calling All Graduates

Are you graduating? Do you know someone from our church family who is graduating?  We would like to celebrate them! If you are a graduate or have one in your family, you can help us by sharing their information with the ministers or the church office.

The Lucky One

Join Vine Street at the Movies on June 6 for a showing of the film Logan Lucky (rated PG-13).Two southern brothers stage an Ocean’s Eleven-type heist with the help of the less than competent Bang brothers, a “gang” led by the very non–suave and non-sophisticated Daniel Craig. Everyone will meet in the Bride’s Room at 7 p.m. for this free event hosted by Jim Carls.

Fulfilling a Call to Ministry

Vine Street's mission depends on many gifts, including the financial support of members and friends. Contributions of all sizes, along with our offerings of time and talents, allow our common ministry to flourish. We have challenged ourselves to operate with a balanced budget in the fiscal year starting July 1, and we need everybody's participation in reaching that goal. If you have not yet returned your pledge, please do so now. Pledge cards are available in the sanctuary windowsills or you may go online to our website http://www.vinestreet.org/give-financially/.

Let’s Celebrate Hope & Greg

We have two very special events celebrating two very special ministers! On Monday, May 21 from 5-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, we’ll host a Celebration of Ministry honoring Greg Rumburg. We’ll snack on some food and beverages and share stories about Greg. Following the celebration, an adult post-party gathering will be held on the deck at Edleys Bar-B-Que in Sylvan Park (4500 Murphy Rd).

On Sunday, May 27 from 5–7 p.m., Vine Street will host a Celebration of Ministry honoring Hope Hodnett. A Hot Dog Picnic will be the centerpiece of this event as we reflect on Hope’s 18 years of ministry at Vine Street. An adult BYOB post-party will commence following the picnic at the home of Tim and Linda Crenshaw. We hope you can join us for both events!
