Vine Street’s Sanctuary was filled with love Sunday, May 21 as the church’s children and youth exuberantly lead our 10 a.m. service, all part of this year’s spirited Children’s Sabbath worship experience.
In their own words, guided by their adult coaches, and inspired by God’s spirit, the young people helped the congregation to make its worship offering to God and to experience God’s grace in word, song and sacrament.
The scripture of the day came from Matthew 22: 34-40, the familiar passage finding Jesus asserting, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (NIV). The lives of Clara Barton, Johnny Appleseed and Nelson Mandela were highlighted as illustrations of living this call.
Vine Street's Children's Choir shared "The Beginning of Love," a gift of music during the service—and, perhaps, a foretaste of this summer's M&M Camp musical production.
Balloons, additional music and laughter rounded out the experience, reminding everyone it’s God’s endless love that makes us whole.
