The Vine Weekly: April 30, 2017

Here are your Vine Street Christian Church announcements for the week of April 30, 2017.

People and Prayers

Marie Heath, Allison Hutton’s mom, fell recently, breaking a tibia. She is recovering from surgery to repair the break.  Please keep Marie and her family in your prayers, especially hoping for comfort and healing.

Who’s Missing?

Who’s missing from our 2017 m&m Camp? Children you know and love, that’s who! Invite your children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and kids from around your neighborhood to experience Vine Street’s exclusive music and mission camp experience. Laughing, singing, acting, creating, caring and playing add up to great new friendships and a life-giving encounter with God. Directed by Katie & T.J. McLaughlin and Hope Hodnett, this day-camp experience, running June 19-23, is for rising first through rising sixth graders. Together everyone creates a musical performance, scheduled for Sunday, June 25 at 4:30 p.m. Fee: $100 per camper (includes a t-shirt, art supplies and a BBQ supper for the family at the musical). Registration is open now; the deadline is May 15. Pick up a form in the lobby or from a Sanctuary windowsill today .

Share Waffles with Mom

Show you care by enjoying with us a Mother’s Day Waffle Breakfast, sponsored by the Vine Street youth group! The celebration is Sunday May 14, 8:30-9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Everyone will enjoy the youth group’s legendary, unlimited waffle bar, coffee, juice and milk for $5 per person. Women, plus children under 10, will enjoy a free meal!

Designer’s Challenge

Save the date: Monday, May 15 at 6 p.m. Our Building Committee invites the congregation to a fun planning session with Hastings Architecture, the team working with us on initial plans for renovations and other building modifications. We will meet at 6 p.m. for a simple meal and informal conversations, and at 6:30 p.m. the planning session will launch. We will identify top priorities from our list of needs and wishes, and we will engage in some hands-on design activities.

Bible Study Begins

Grow in your faith with our adult Christian education class on Sunday, May 7 as the group begins the first of a three-part Bible study. Follow-up classes happen May 21 and 28. (We'll enjoy waffles together May 14!) Everyone gathers at 9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.

Take Me to Your Leader

Leadership helps to move a church forward! So the Official Board’s nominating committee is receiving now nominations for leadership during the 2017-18 church year, which begins July 1. Please share the names of people in our congregation you believe can help. A form is included in today’s bulletin—please complete it before you leave worship!

Free Movie Showing in May

Join Vine Street at the Movies May 3 for the likeable and well-crafted documentary, Dark Horse (rated PG). When a barmaid in a Welsh pub decides that owning a champion race horse is her destiny, she discovers that it takes a village to raise one. Showtime is at 7 p.m.  in the Bride’s Room.

Ladies to Meet

Serenity Circle will meet on May 9. Ladies, please join us at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. We are a group of sometimes two, sometimes 20 (or more) women who like to share, eat, read, talk, laugh, cry... then talk some more. We’re a varied group of homemakers and professionals gathering the second Tuesday of most months to share a volunteer dinner (meaning we signed up for a dish the previous meeting) and to discuss (sometimes) the latest chapter in a group-chosen book. We keep our ears open for ways to serve the church and our community, too. If you’d like to be added to the email list, contact Kathy Zamata (k.zamata@comcast.net). No obligation, but we’d love to see you there!

Let's Celebrate Spring Together

On May 7 from 4-7 p.m., the congregations of Vine Street and Alameda Christian Churches will gather at Edwin Warner Park for food, games and fun! We’ll provide the barbecue, basic sides, plates, utensils and drinks.  All you have to do is meet at pavilion #10 with a side dish or dessert to share. Oh, and be ready for supper, corn hole, creek walking and wonderful fellowship! We can’t wait to see you there!
