Join Vine Street at the Movies, hosted by Jim Carls, as we view Ball of Fire on Wednesday, Aug. 3 in Fellowship Hall!
August is back-to-school month, and we’re going way back to 1941 with this Howard Hawks comedic thriller. A group of university academics, which may remind viewers of seven dwarves, fall under the spell of a young woman—one who will definitely not be reminiscent of Snow White. Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck play the leads. Showtime is at 7 p.m. This film is rated G.
About the film, Charles Taylor (The Village Voice) says, “The writing, as it is, is a marvel. The patter that flows forth whenever some regular Joe flaps his jaws is a wonder to hear. Garbage men and waiters, pool hall bums and showgirls, newsboys and college boys—they're all virtuosos singing the wisecracking arias Wilder and Brackett have given them.”
As always, Vine Street at the Movies is a free event.
