The Brass Band of Nashville will kick off its 2016 season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 with its concert “Tribute in Brass.” The free community event will be held at Vine Street Christian Church.
The band will participate in a commission of a new work and it’s premiere. “Five,” composed by Dr. Kenyon Wilson, a tuba professor at University of Tennessee (Chattanooga), honors the memory of the five soldiers murdered in the 2015 Chattanooga terrorist shootings. Some 60 ensembles all over the country have contributed to the commission of this work. The Brass Band of Nashville will be performing its local premiere at the concert.
Additional musical selections will include:
“Tuba Mirum Fanfare” - Vedi (from the Requiem - 1874)
“Colonel Bogey March” (1914) - Alford (Bridge Over the River Kwai)
“Swedish Folk Song (O, Lord my God)” - Traditional
“Five” (local premiere) - Kenyon Wilson
