Friday prayers - heartbreak and great joy

Tallu Schuyler Quinn

“Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.”
Matthew 5:4

Dear Tennessee Regional Church Family:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the Rev. Tallu Schuyler Quinn. Tallu moved from this earthly life to her eternal home on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Let us pause - all over the Christian Church in Tennessee - to thank God for a glorious life well lived. One who leaves her touch on all she encountered. Her legacy of love, commitment, and light will be remembered for times to come. Tallu was the founder of the Nashville Food Project, member of Woodmont Christian Church, and lover of Bethany Hills Camp.

Keep in prayer Robbie Quinn (husband), and two beautiful children. Please pray for Tallu’s parents Thomas and Sarah Schuyler, siblings, and the entire Schuyler-Quinn families. Pray for all those who loved her and were blessed by the power of her friendship.

As more information becomes available, we will share it with our entire region.

God Bless each of us, as we lean on the love of the one who holds, comforts, and supports us during these times of sadness and grief.

Thank you, God for the life of Rev. Tallu Schuyler-Quinn

Navigating this journey in prayer,

The Rev. Dr, Christal L. Williams
Regional Minister & President
The Christian Church in Tennessee

Linda Parker is hospitalized. Thank you for remembering her in your prayers.

Katie McLaughlin is in quarantine after testing positive for Covid on Wednesday. We’re grateful that so far it’s only been “run of the mill crud with just a little more headache.”

Jack Wallace will have major surgery on February 10. Thank you for lifting him up in prayer, along with the surgical team.

Tuesday prayers

Rachel Dixon asks for prayers for Carol Formosa. Carol was the nurse in Bryce’s office, and her husband, Charles, died recently.

Sara Harwell’s dear friend and life partner, Marice Moylan Wolfe, died on January 3, 2022 at age 86 from complications of Alzheimer’s. There will be an ecumenical memorial service at Vine Street Christian Church on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 2pm, with visitation at the church at 1pm and a reception in Fellowship Hall following the service. Thank you for your prayers for Sara and all who are mourning the loss of Marice.

Pat Cole

Pat Cole tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday after experiencing body aches and feeling very tired on Friday. Pat and Ed both had three vaccine shots, and both are now in quarantine. For the time being they have food and medications they need, but we’ll keep you posted and let you know if they need any kind of help. Please keep them in your prayers.

Wednesday prayers

Linda Parker is mourning the loss of her father who died earlier today. Please remember her in your prayers.

Jim Zamata writes, “On behalf of everyone that knew my brother Glenn I want to express my gratitude for your cards, notes, and condolences. It means a great deal to know you are surrounded by a loving community. Thank you for your love and support.”

Jack Wallace continues to receive treatments for a stubborn infection; he sends his greetings:

Dear Vine Street friends,

Although my health issues prevent me from gathering with you for worship, I continue to participate via the online service. I am grateful for that connection with you, even with its limitations, each Sunday.

I also appreciate the cards, the emails, and phone calls. Your thoughtfulness means much to me, and please know I look forward to the day when I can be with you in person again.

Until then, I remain your brother in Christ,

Jack Wallace

Chris Well

Erica Well posted this on Wednesday:

Sooooo. My sweetheart, my hubby, my Chris, is now recovering from two really intense days of major surgery. The prognosis is good, the recovery is long. The intensity of the past 8 weeks of surprise diagnosis to the surgeries themselves (there have been 4) has been ... well ... intense. I haven’t had the bandwidth to mention it here before now. (I’ve also started a new job, so it’s a lot a lot.)

If any of y’all would send him Get Well cards, he would find that very cheery. I know it’s Christmas and New Year’s, but like I said, this’ll be a long recovery, so a Get Well card anytime, even after the holidays, sure would be sweet.

You can send them to: Chris Well, PO Box 20214, New York, NY 10001

Thank you!!

Wednesday prayer requests

Jim Zamata asks for our prayers. “Doctors think my brother Glenn is likely near the end of his life. We ask for prayers for the family and especially his wife Peggy.” Thank you for lifting up Glenn and all who love him.

In response to the recent severe tornado damage, particularly in western Kentucky, our Regional Minister, Rev. Dr. Christal Williams invites us to

  • Make a donation to Week of Compassion where 100% of your gift will be used according to your designation;

  • at the appropriate time, gather Mission Teams all over the region to go… assist… and aid the Christian Church in Kentucky with clean up work and rebuilding; and

  • offer our prayers of support and love for all those effected. “Please keep in prayer, Rev. Rachel Nance Woehler, Area Minister, and the General Minister & President, Rev. Dr. Donald K. Gillett and all in that Region who are rebuilding their hearts and lives.”

Katie McLaughlin's grandma

Katie McLaughlin’s grandmother, Dorothy Hood, died early this morning. Funeral plans are still being made, but the family hopes to gather on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. An added burden for Katie has been that, due to pandemic rules, she was not able to visit her grandma in the nursing home when they traveled to Illinois for Thanksgiving. Thank you for remembering Katie and all who love Dorothy in your prayers.

Wednesday prayers

Samuel Jenkins is mourning the death of this brother, Wayne “Screamy” Jenkins. Thank you for keeping him and the family in your prayers. Read obituary

Micah Snow’s grandfather is now receiving hospice care for end-stage Alzheimer’s disease. “If you would, say a prayer for peace & comfort during his final days, and especially keep my grandmother in your thoughts as well. As a family, we’ve been preparing for this day for a bit, but it’s still hard, regardless.”
