Thursday prayers

Prayers and cards for Ruth

Ruth Skinner fell and broke her right arm. After a brief hospitalization, she is now healing and recovering at NHC Place; she is expected to be there for about two weeks. Ruth can’t have visitors and doesn’t have her voice-to-text phone with her, but she would love to hear from you via mail:

A note from Virginia

Dear Vine Street:

Thank you so much for the calls, texts, cards and other support related to my serious eye surgery on October 1. I am happy to report that my recovery has proceeded even better than expected. No doubt, your thoughts and prayers contributed mightily to this success.

All the best, and I hope to “see” all of you before too long.

Linda Parker

Linda will have a procedure tomorrow to replace a stent.

Joe Keith

Joe Keith has some good news to share!

“I am very happy to report that my scan results show good progress with my treatment to the point where Dr. Gibson says I am, in his mind, in maintenance mode. I will still get treatments, but scaled down to hopefully calm the side effects.”

Denise Olmstead

We offer our sympathy to the family of Denise Olmsted, 99, who died on October 1, 2020. Denise was the wife of Gilford Olmsted who served as Senior Minister at Vine Street 1978-1982. Rev. Olmstead died in 2001.  Messages of condolence may be sent to their son, John Olmsted at PO Box 348, Raymore, MO  64083.

Monday prayers

Joe Keith has completed his twelfth chemo treatment. He’s waiting for a PET scan appointment and will be waiting about two weeks for the results.

John Dorris, Lyn Dorris’s dad, has not been feeling well recently; he has undergone several tests and is waiting for the results.

We continue to pray for Micah Snow and his family who are mourning the sudden and unexpected death of his dad, Randy Snow.

Ed Cole’s brother, Dennie Cole, is recovering from eye surgery.

Fay Delk asks for prayers for her friend Jo, whose son is dying of cancer.

Samuel Jenkins turned 53 on Sunday! Happy Birthday, Samuel!

And we continue to pray for teachers, parents, and students, and our communities and nation. Thank you for remembering these folks and concerns in your prayers!

Friday prayers

Jane Short is recuperating from back surgery. We join her and Brock and their family in praying for a speedy recovery.

Randy Halstead’s mom, Bobbie Halstead, passed away this morning on Thursday morning at age 89, with family at her bedside. Randy and Jackie were able to see her one last time before returning to Nashville on Wednesday night. Thank you for continuing to hold them and the whole family in prayer.

Ruth Skinner is feeling very lonely due to pandemic-related visitation restrictions. Talking with her on the phone can be difficult (her phone uses voice to text technology so she can read what people are saying, and it doesn’t always work well), but she loves hearing from you. Her address is

8207 Highway 100, Apt. 215
Nashville, TN 37221

Ted Parks

Ted’s mother, Mackie Sue Parks, died this morning in Chattanooga at age 86. She suffered from Alzheimer’s and breathed her last while having breakfast with her husband, Buddy. Ted is on his way to Chattanooga to be with his dad and the rest of the family. Thank you for keeping them and all who love Mackie Sue in your prayers.

April Hefner

Greg Rumburg asks for our prayers for April. She is recovering very well from her hip surgery earlier this spring. However, she had surgery this morning for an unrelated matter. She's doing well this afternoon and is grateful for surrounding her with our prayers as she begins the recovery process.

Pat Cole

On Friday evening, Pat wasn’t feeling well and she noticed numbness in her left arm and leg. She and Ed went to the ER and learned that she had experienced an afib event and a TIA (“mini stroke”). She has fully recovered from the TIA, and there’s a good chance she will return home today or tomorrow. With Pat and Ed, we are grateful for this good outcome of a scary episode!
